Welcome!

Change, whether sudden or slow, can leave you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure of how to move forward.

If you’re navigating a difficult life transition, a shift in your health, chronic stress, grief, caregiving responsibilities, or the lingering effects of past trauma, you don’t have to face it alone.

At the Aurora Center for Psychology & Wellbeing, you’ll find a warm and supportive space to make sense of what’s shifting in your life, emotionally, physically, and relationally. Many of the struggles that bring people to therapy are rooted in how the mind and nervous system respond to stress and change. Here, we blend compassionate therapeutic care with neuroscience-informed tools to help you understand your internal experience and build steadiness from the inside out.

Our mission is simple: to help you navigate the changes you didn’t choose, and create the changes you are ready for, with clarity, resilience, and support.

Meet Our Therapist

I’m Dr. Barbara Colombo, a licensed psychologist in Vermont, originally from northern Italy and now deeply rooted here

My background as a clinician, professor, and researcher allows me to bridge the worlds of science and therapeutic care, offering support that is both deeply human and grounded in evidence.

My work centers on helping adults navigate the emotional and physiological challenges that come with change: whether related to anxiety, trauma, grief, caregiving, chronic pain, illness, identity shifts, or aging.

I focus on understanding what’s happening in your mind and nervous system so we can build the internal flexibility and resilience needed to move forward.

I integrate several approaches:

Evidence-based therapies

IFS, ACT, and CBT help you understand your inner world, regulate emotions, and respond to stress in healthier, more empowered ways.

Creative and expressive methods

Art-therapy–informed techniques provide new ways to explore experiences when words feel too limited.

Innovative neuroscience tools

I offer tDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) for migraines, chronic pain, and mood support, as well as a specialized cognitive reserve and brain-health program grounded in my academic research.

Across all methods, my goal is the same:

To help you understand what’s happening inside you, feel less alone in the process, and find steadiness and clarity through whatever changes you’re facing.

How We Help You Through Change

Understanding What’s Changing — Emotionally & Neurologically

Change affects both the mind and the nervous system. Together, we explore what your body is communicating, whether through anxiety, overwhelm, shutdown, or physical symptoms, so you can understand your internal experience with greater clarity and compassion.

Tools for Emotional Regulation & Inner Stability

Using IFS, ACT, CBT, and mind–body strategies, we build skills to help you stay grounded during difficult transitions. You’ll learn how to respond to stress in healthier, more flexible ways.

Support for the Changes You Didn’t Choose and Creating the Changes You Want

Grief, caregiving, illness, chronic pain, trauma, or shifting life roles can feel overwhelming. Therapy offers a safe place to process what’s heavy and move toward steadiness and relief.

Whether you want to feel calmer, strengthen relationships, reduce pain, or rebuild a sense of meaning, we work together to support the changes you want, not just survive the ones you didn’t choose.

What is the “No Surprises Act,” and how does it apply to my care?

Because Aurora Center for Psychology & Wellbeing is a self-pay practice, all clients automatically have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for the cost of services under the No Surprises Act.

A Good Faith Estimate outlines the expected fees for your therapy or services before you begin care. While it cannot predict the exact course or length of treatment, it provides a clear estimate based on the information available at the time.

You may:

  • Request a Good Faith Estimate before your first appointment, and

  • Ask questions about fees at any time during treatment.

If your bill is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the charge.

For more information, you can visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
